What is a s type load cell (aka s beam load cell)?
S type load cells, also known as Z beam or S beam load cells, these sensors are shaped like the letter S and are suitable for both compressive and tensile force measurement.
The spring element of s-type force sensors can be made from aluminum, alloy steel or stainless steel, which will deform at both sides under compression or tension loads and recover once the load is removed, the deformation is detected by strain gauges bonded on the center beam of the elastomer and converted into an electrical signal proportional to the applied force, the force value can be obtains by further processing the mV output from the Wheatstone full bridge.
Another distinguishing feature of s-beam load cells is that there is a tapped hole on each side of the transducer. Load buttons, rod ends, eye bolts, hooks and other attachments can be mounted to the threaded holes to meet requirements of various applications such as tank and suspended hopper weighing, mechanical overload protection, tensile strength and fatigue testing machines, structural performance inspection, industrial process control and so on.
