What is a rotary torque sensor?

Rotary torque sensors are rotational drive torque measuring devices that convert a torsional mechanical input into a measurable electrical output. Compared to reaction torque transducers, the sensing shaft or flange of rotary torque meters rotates while the housing and cable remains still, they perform an extremely vital role in ensuring torque is measured accurately and are well suited for torque measurement in rotating systems such as engines, crankshafts, gearboxes, turbines, transmissions, and rotors. Typical applications include motor test benches, valve open and close torque test, stirring torque control and feedback, tool testing and fastener quality auditing, etc.

Our rotary torque transducers based on either slip-ring or non-contact technology, both starts with a Wheatstone bridge arrangement on a spring element constructed from stainless steel. The signal transmission is achieved through slip rings and brushes for slipring torque sensors, while contactless torque sensors utilize magnetic coupling principle and are more durable. Our slip ring dynamic torque sensors measure torque only with unamplified mV/V output, while non-contact torque transmitters can measure both torque and speed with standardized 0-5V, 0-10V and 4-20mA output.

LCS supplies rotary torque meters with rated capacities from 0.1Nm to 5kNm, rotating speed goes up to 12000RPM, we also provide custom design services for our dynamic torque sensors to better meet customers' requirements.
